Very Close to Nature in Kolkata, India

Great Banyan Tree at Indian Botanic Garden

I love green. There is nothing can really soothe my eyes except it’s all about nature and everlasting green. Yes, I’m talking about Kolkata nature and the AMAZING beauty of the famous Great Banyan Tree. This massive tree is the famous and popular attraction for all tourists and nature lovers at Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden located in Shibpur, Howrah near Kolkata, India.

During my last two years in the City of Joy (Kolkata) I did explore much, visited popular and beautiful spots and from those two must visit places are Indian Botanic Garden and Millennium Park.  Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden is best mainly to explore the Great Banyan Tree and the Millennium Park is to enjoy the beautiful sunset from the river side of Hooghly.

One thing must mention about Kolkata is that you will really enjoy moving around this city because of its cool communication system. Mostly all roads connect with bus, tram, metro, and taxi. Just hire one taxi and move around.

Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden

So lovely, calm and quiet place!!! I was walking through the walkway of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden and exploring many unknown Botanics. For a moment, you can think also that you came into a deep forest full of many trees and plants. Simply Thrilling!! The total area of this garden is 109 Hectares occupied with many rare collections of trees and almost 12,000 living plants brought from five continents. This is the oldest botanical gardens in India. There is one beautiful lake too for boating, but unfortunately, missed that chance as it started to rain heavily during Autumn.

Great Banyan

And then I found the main attraction The Great Banyan Tree. This banyan tree is the largest in Asia, over 250 years old and world famous for its largest canopy. It is harder to believe this tree as an individual one. Truly nothing can beat the natural beauty around us and we are thankful to God for living in this beautiful world.

How To Visit

Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden is bit far away from the Kolkata city. There are many local bus service available and better to take the public transport for saving money. I traveled by local bus from Park Street to reach the Indian Botanic Garden in Howrah.

The best time to visit in between Monsoon and Autumn to enjoy the amazing greeneries around. You must have to collect entrance ticket from the counter. You’ve to pay extra for carrying any gadget with you like mobile and camera.

Millennium Park in Kolkata

The main reason for my love for this Millennium Park is the beautiful Hooghly River. Yes, from this park you can enjoy the cool breeze and the beauty of this river view as it is located on the banks of this river. The evening is the best time to visit. Oh, what a beauty!! Sun is setting and you are viewing that priceless moment. And one of the beautiful architects Howrah Bridge is also visible from this park. I took a ferry ride from here to visit the Howrah Bridge.
